About this class
Vermont Math Circle offers engaging virtual math classes for students aged 8-12. These 10-week, 60-minute sessions encourage creative problem-solving and visualization. Class topics include graph theory, game theory, probability, and combinatorics, introducing mathematical concepts typically encountered at higher education levels. These virtual programs are offered in collaboration with International Chess Academy. Beyond standard math circles, specialized Dungeons & Dragons Math Circles combine role-playing with mathematical discussions, helping students solve narrative puzzles and calculate probabilities. No prior D&D or math circle experience is necessary. Chess Circles are also available, featuring instruction and gameplay. These programs aim to build foundational skills in math for youth in Burlington, VT and beyond. Private groups for D&D Math Circles, semi-private math circles, or chess groups can be arranged for a minimum of 3 students, available both virtually and in-person in Burlington, VT. Teacher workshops are also provided for K-8 math educators and homeschooling parents, focusing on new ideas and games for math engagement.
