About this camp
Gross Out Camp offers hands-on field biology training in Birmingham, AL, designed for children aged 1-7. Participants engage directly with nature, exploring local ecosystems in search of bugs, worms, and other creatures. This day program prioritizes outdoor exploration and science experiments, fostering curiosity and observation skills. Children spend their time outdoors, investigating woods and creeks. The curriculum incorporates design-thinking into science experiments, led by expert instructors including PhDs, master naturalists, and certified teachers, ensuring a 6-to-1 participant-to-staff ratio. Scholarships are available, guaranteeing tired, dirty children by the end of the day. This nature-focused training encourages discovery over strict schedules. When a salamander is found, the program pauses for detailed study, allowing children to lead their learning based on natural encounters.
